StoryGraph Alternatives: What to Check Before You Switch

Choose the part of StoryGraph you want to replace before moving your records. A library import is one task; keeping tags, private journal entries, chart settings and book discussions is another. This guide separates documented destination features from transfers we could not verify.

Move a book library into another discovery serviceHardcoverIts publisher listing explicitly advertises StoryGraph import. That establishes a library route, not complete journal, tag or discussion parity. Inspect representative records.
Keep a personal reading journal and timerBookmoryIts listing describes notes, a timer and generic CSV/Excel import. A StoryGraph-specific mapping and private-journal transfer were not verified.

Audit records, analysis and conversations separately

StoryGraph presents charts, mood and pace filters, content warnings, private reading context and progress-linked buddy reactions. Decide which parts you depend on. A new app having its own stats or notes does not prove it recreates your existing ones.

  • Library: edition, status, rating, dates and repeated reads.
  • Organization: your tag names and which books belong to them.
  • Journal: entry text, date and page, percentage or audio location.
  • Analysis: the question a chart answers, its filters and the underlying records.
  • Social context: the group, spoiler boundary and conversations you want to revisit.

Start with the documented import, then test fields

Hardcover advertises StoryGraph import in its own store listing. Use its current official instructions and retain an unchanged source file. Check a finished book, a repeat read and a tagged record after import. We did not verify a complete field map or run a live transfer, so the imported total is only one check.

A replacement chart needs more than the same label

Write down what you use a chart to decide, such as choosing shorter books or reviewing a year. Check the destination data and grouping behind that view. Book metadata, filters and counted reads can differ. Preserve a private reference to an important view rather than assuming matching headings produce matching results.

Keep tags, warnings and notes distinct

Your personal tag is not the same thing as a service-provided mood or content warning. Test both the label and its association with the right book. If a journal entry matters, check its text and location separately from a public review. A full private-journal or buddy-discussion transfer was not established by this research.

Try the next social format without abandoning the old one

A Fable chapter room and a ReadersGuild simultaneous quiet room support different interactions from progress-gated reactions. Agree a spoiler boundary for a new discussion or a start time for quiet reading. You can keep StoryGraph as your archive while testing one new routine.

Check access on the devices your group uses

Use current official listings and plan pages. Hardcover and Bookmory have iOS and Android listings; StoryGraph provides web and mobile access. Fable social access and ebook purchases have separate country rules. ReadersGuild currently supports iPhone, with Android on an email waitlist. Do not pay for an extra chart or club control until you have checked that exact feature.

A repeat read is a separate preservation check

Fictional example: Alex has read one novel twice, filed it under a personal tag and kept a private note at 40 percent. Seeing the title in the new library does not settle the migration. Alex checks both reading dates, the tag membership and the note location independently, keeping the source until those checks are complete.

Illustrative example, not a reader testimonial.
