Reading app comparisons

Bookly vs Bookmory

Bookly

A timed sitting

Time your reading and keep a session record.

Bookmory

A reading journal

Keep timed reading, notes and a calendar together.

Workflow illustrations, not app screenshots. These highlight a use case for each app; both may support other reading activities.

Both apps document reading timers, notes and stats. Consider Bookly for a timer-led routine with sounds, goals and reports. Consider Bookmory for a reading calendar and note-centered journal, with documented file exports on iPhone. The useful test is whether you can correct a sitting, find its notes and keep the records you care about.

Consider Bookly if

  • You want ambient sounds and a finish estimate around a timed sitting.
  • You want per-book reports to review or share.
  • The current free or Pro workflow covers the records you need.

Consider Bookmory if

  • You want to revisit reading through a calendar and book notes.
  • You need an iPhone export format you can inspect outside the app.
  • You want to try its note tools and check which require Premium.

Make the choice with one book

Do the same small task in each app before paying: time two sittings on one book and keep one note. Compare the records you can retrieve afterwards. This is a suggested check, not a hands-on result from us.

Choose the app that keeps your routine useful after the timer stops. If both work, decide whether reports or journal retrieval matters more to you. A longer feature list is not a reason to maintain two logs.

A two-session check before you commit

Use the same book and starting page in both apps. Choose your own short session lengths; this is a suggested comparison, not a habit prescription.

  1. Save two sittings, then check their dates, durations and ending pages. Try correcting one entry if the app offers it.
  2. Write a short note and a quote. Close and reopen the book, then try to find both.
  3. Inspect the available backup and export controls. If you obtain a file, check whether it contains individual sessions and note text, rather than only book totals.

No native timer, background behavior, export file or restore was tested for this guide. Verify the features on your device and plan.

Before moving your library

Keep backup, sync and export separate. Backup helps recover data within an app; sync copies data between supported devices; export makes a file you can inspect elsewhere. Bookmory documents iPhone export formats, but the field contents and a Bookly-to-Bookmory round trip were not tested. Do not erase the source record after a successful upload alone.
