Reading app comparisons

Bookmory vs Goodreads

Bookmory

A reading journal

Keep timed reading, notes and a calendar together.

Goodreads

A shelf of books

Keep shelves, browse reviews and follow friends.

Workflow illustrations, not app screenshots. These highlight a use case for each app; both may support other reading activities.

Consider Bookmory when you want a personal record of sittings, notes and reading days. Consider Goodreads when reviews, shelves and people you already follow help you choose books. Both record books and progress. Decide whether you need a daily journal, a social bookshelf or a simple division of work between them.

Consider Bookmory if

  • You want notes and reading days to be easy to revisit.
  • You want to time sittings as part of your personal record.
  • You need to inspect the iPhone export options before choosing a journal.

Consider Goodreads if

  • You use reviews and people you follow to choose what to read.
  • You want your existing shelves available on the web.
  • You prefer a book-level log over another daily session routine.

Make the choice with one book

Keep Goodreads for discovery and Bookmory for your journal if each has a clear job. For example, you could maintain your finished-book shelf in Goodreads and your ongoing notes in Bookmory. This adds manual work; automatic synchronization was not verified.

If you want only one record, choose the one you will keep current. A personal note archive and a community review shelf have different audiences, so check where an entry will appear before copying private thoughts into a public review.

Keep book history separate from journal history

Fictional example: Jo has a finished book with a rating/date, an unfinished novel and a note from each of two reading sessions. A matching book count would not show whether the notes or timings survived.

  1. Check title, author and edition for the finished and unfinished books. Then inspect status, rating and completion date.
  2. Look for each note and timed session separately. A finished-book date or total reading time does not prove the individual entries transferred.
  3. Check where the destination displays the copied text and who can see it. Keep the original record until the result meets your needs.

This is an illustrative audit, not a performed import or a promise of compatible fields.

Before moving your library

Bookmory's iPhone listing advertises CSV/Excel imports, but this guide did not test a Goodreads import or a return trip. Preserve the original Goodreads CSV and any Bookmory note exports. A supported format alone does not establish how editions, dates, ratings, repeated reads or sessions are mapped. Check representative records before relying on the destination.
